11. Renting a House or Apartment: Story

Dave and Anne have two children (1). Their names are Bob and Katie. Bob is six years old; Katie is three.

The family lives in a one-bedroom (2) apartment. They want to move to a house where they’ll have more room. (3)

While Dave is at work (4), Anne looks for a house to rent. She finds (5) a house for lease and calls (6) the number.

When someone (7) answers the phone she says, “I’m looking for a three-bedroom house to rent. Do you have one?”

The rental manager is a giraffe. He says, “Yes, we have a three-bedroom house in a nice neighborhood (8). You can lease it for a year with an option to buy (9).”

Dave and Anne meet (10) with the manager. His name is Mr. Rogers. He’s nice and very tall (11).

Mr. Rogers shows them (12) the house. They like it (13) and are interested in leasing it.

Mr. Rogers helps them fill out (14) the application. They pay (15) a deposit of $5.20.

The house rents for $3.60 a month. If they want to buy it after a year, they will owe (16) $250,398.12.

11. Renting a House or Apartment: Reading

Dave and Anne are a married couple (1) with two children. Their names are Bob and Katie. Bob is six years old (2); Katie is three.

The family is living in a one-bedroom apartment where there’s not much room. (3) Dave and Anne want to move (4) to a bigger place.

While (5) Dave is at work, Anne starts looking (6) for a house to rent. She looks on craigslist on her computer.

She finds a house for lease at a good price. Anne dials the number. (7) She hears, (8) “Hello, This is Fred Rogers of the Alchemy Rental and Leasing Agency. How can I help you (9)?

Anne tells him (10) she’s looking for a three-bedroom house and asks if he knows of one (11) they can rent or lease.

Fred says that he’s does. It’s in a good neighborhood, close to (12) an elementary school where children can attend school and play (13). The house comes (14) with an option to buy.

Anne says she’s very interested.  She tells Fred that she and Dave will come (15) look at the house when he gets home (16) from work.

At six o’clock Dave and Anne meet with (17) the rental manager. They are surprised to see that he is a giraffe. Fred Rogers is nice and very tall.
