17. At the Hair Salon: Story

Jennifer goes to a hair salon. Her hair is too long. She wants it shorter. She needs a trim and she’d like to have a new style.

Jennifer wants shorter hair—especially on the sides. She likes the back and top just like it is (1). She’d like to look like Beyoncé when she had short hair.

Jennifer takes a picture (2) of the hair style she wants to show (3) to her hair stylist (4). His name is Joel. He’s a monkey (5).

Joel picks up (6) his clippers and scissors. Jennifer tells him to cut off all the long hair on the sides and off the back, but not off the front.

Joel cuts seventeen inches off the sides, twenty-four inches off the back and leaves (7) the top and front just like it is. He works on Jennifer’s hair for ten hours and sixteen minutes and thirty-two seconds.

Jennifer’s hair looks great (8).  She looks just like (9) Beyoncé. Jennifer asks Joel how much she owes (10) him.

Joel says it was his privilege to do it and only asks (11) that Jennifer give him 50% if anyone pays her to take her (12) photo.

As Jennifer is leaving (13) the hair salon, a paparazzi sees her. He thinks (14) she is Beyoncé and takes a photo of her.

The pictures come out in a magazine (15). Jennifer sues (16) the paparazzi and the magazine and gets (17) $9,325,491.36. She gives half (18) of the money to Joel.

17. At the Hair Salon: Reading

Jennifer lives in Los Angeles. Los Angeles has a population of 3,792,621. It’s the second largest city in the United States.

Today Jennifer goes to the hair salon. She thinks that (1) her hair is too long. Jennifer really likes the way Beyoncé’s hair looks when it is short.

Jennifer goes to visit her favorite hair stylist, Joel Snip. She explains to him that she wants shorter hair—especially on the sides. She likes the back and top just like it is (2).

Jennifer shows Joel the photo of Beyoncé and says she wants hair like hers. Joel, who is a monkey, picks up (3) his clippers and scissors and starts to cut her hair.

Jennifer tells him to cut all the long hair off the sides and off the back, but not off the front. (4)

Joel cuts seventeen inches (5) off the sides, twenty-four inches off the back and leaves the top and front just like it is. He works on Jennifer’s hair for ten hours and sixteen minutes and thirty-two seconds.

Jennifer’s hair looks great (6)!  Jennifer and Joel think she looks just like (7) Beyoncé. Jennifer is very pleased with her new hair style and asks Joel how much she owes him. (8)

Joel usually charges (9) $500 as a minimum, but this time he says, (10) “No charge.” He only asks (11) that Jennifer give him 50% if anyone pays her to take her (12) photo.

As Jennifer is leaving (13) the hair salon, a paparazzi sees her. (14) (There are lots of paparazzi in Hollywood.) The paparazzi thinks Jennifer is Beyoncé. He takes lots of pictures of her.

After a few days, (15) the pictures come out in a magazine (16). Jennifer sues (17) the paparazzi and the magazine and gets (18) $9,325,491.36.

She is thrilled and gives half (19) of the money to Joel. They leave Los Angeles and move to Rio de Janeiro where they lie around (20) on Copacabana Beach and drink (21) lemonade all day.
