18. At the Auto Parts Store: Reading
Lionel is a kangaroo. He lives in Sidney, Australia. Lionel learned (1) to drive when he was only five years old.(2)

Lionel loves driving through (3) the Australian outback (4) in his 1974, 4 cylinder Toyota pickup truck. The small truck now has 412,378 miles.

Lionel thinks it’s time (5) for a tune-up (6). The truck has not been running well lately (7). He’s going to do the work himself (8).

Lionel goes to the auto parts store and talks with the parts guy (9). His name is Gus. Lionel tells Gus what he needs.

He orders five quarts of oil, a new air filter, a new fuel filter, four chrome spark plugs and four new brake pads.

Lionel also wants to change (10) the anti-freeze so he asks Gus to bring him (11) a gallon of anti-freeze.

Gus asks if Lionel needs a new battery or any light bulbs. Lionel says he thinks he’s good and that he doesn’t need a new battery or any new lights for now (12).

Lionel pays the bill (13). The total charge (14) for all the parts is $27,416.53. That’s Australian dollars, so it’s a little less than (15) in the United States.

Lionel takes (16) all the new parts, the oil, the antifreeze, and the filters and puts them in his pickup.

He gets in and starts (17) the truck. Suddenly (18) all four tires fall off (19)! Lionel is startled and wonders (20) why this happened. (21)

Then Lionel sees his best friend, (22) Max. running away carrying a lug wrench (23).

Suddenly Lionel thinks, Of course (24)! Today is April Fools’ Day! Max has played a good trick on him! (25)
