33. Buying a Car: Story
Daniel is a turtle. (1) He lives in Charlotte, South
Carolina. Everybody (2) in Charlotte calls him (3) Danny.
Danny needs a car to get (4) to work. He decides to look
for a used car in good condition with low miles.
Greg works at a car lot as a salesman. (5) Danny asks Greg
if he has a good used car that is fuel efficient.
Danny says he likes imported cars, but he doesn’t like (6) compact
cars.
Greg shows (7) Danny an imported midsized car with only 4,000
miles and gets 200 mpg. (8)
Danny asks what “mpg” means. (9) Greg tells him, “miles per
gallon” of gasoline. Danny is impressed and he likes the way it looks.

Danny asks if he can test drive the car. He wants to check it out.
Greg says, “Of course.” (11)
Danny drives (12) the car for three days, two hours and
sixteen and one half minutes. It runs great! (13)
Danny decides to purchase the car and asks Greg how much it
costs. (14) Greg says it’s only $12.32. Danny is surprised (15) that
the price is so low. (16)
Greg explains the reason (17) and Danny buys the car. They
