33. Buying a Car: Story
Daniel is a turtle. (1) He lives in Charlotte, South
Carolina. Everybody (2) in Charlotte calls him (3) Danny.
Danny needs a car to get (4) to work. He decides to look
for a used car in good condition with low miles.
Greg works at a car lot as a salesman. (5) Danny asks Greg
if he has a good used car that is fuel efficient.
Danny says he likes imported cars, but he doesn’t like (6) compact
cars.
Greg shows (7) Danny an imported midsized car with only 4,000
miles and gets 200 mpg. (8)
Danny asks what “mpg” means. (9) Greg tells him, “miles per
gallon” of gasoline. Danny is impressed and he likes the way it looks.
(10)
Danny asks if he can test drive the car. He wants to check it out.
Greg says, “Of course.” (11)
Danny drives (12) the car for three days, two hours and
sixteen and one half minutes. It runs great! (13)
Danny decides to purchase the car and asks Greg how much it
costs. (14) Greg says it’s only $12.32. Danny is surprised (15) that
the price is so low. (16)
Greg explains the reason (17) and Danny buys the car. They
are both (18) very happy.

Daniel is a turtle. (1)
He lives in Charlotte, North Carolina. Everybody (2) in Charlotte calls
him (3) Danny. He likes to drive fast. (4)
Danny needs a car to get
(5) to work. He works far from (6) where he lives. Danny decides to
look for (7) a used car in good condition with low miles.
Greg, one of Danny’s
friends, works at a car lot as a car salesman. (8) Danny asks Greg if he
has a good used car that is fuel efficient with low mileage.
Danny tells Greg he likes
imported cars but it really doesn’t matter. (9) Danny also tells him he
doesn’t like compact cars. He thinks that he looks bigger (10) in a
bigger car.
Greg shows (11) Danny
an imported midsized car with only 4,000 miles. Greg says it gets 200 mpg.
Danny asks what “mpg” means
(12) and Greg tells him, “miles per gallon” of gasoline. Danny is impressed and
he likes the way it looks. (13) The car is red and sporty. (14)
Danny asks if he can test
drive the car. He wants to check it out. (15) Greg says, “Of course.”
(16) Greg trusts (17) Danny and gives
him the keys. (18)
Danny drives (19) the
car for three days, twenty-two hours and sixteen and one half minutes. It runs
great! (20)
Danny decides to purchase
the car and asks Greg how much it costs. (21) Greg says it’s only
$12.32. Danny is surprised (22) that the price is so low. (23)
Greg explains that the previous owner (24) instructed that
they should not (25) sell the car. They should only give it away.
(26)
He said if they gave it to a turtle, who loves
driving fast, he would give (27) $100,000 to the salesman. (28) The
$12.32 is the storage fee. (29)
Both (30) Danny
and Greg are delighted. (31) Danny has a good car and Greg has $100,000!
