6. Shopping for Clothes: Story

There is an elephant named Richard. It’s his birthday. (1) He needs clothes so he goes (2) to K-Mart.

Richard buys a purple sweater, two pink ties, five pair of black socks, six pair of orange pants, and one green belt. (3)

There’s just (4) one problem. He forgot that it’s (5) his sister’s birthday, too. She is four years younger than (6) he is.

Richard returns to the store (7). He returns (8) all the clothes so he can (9) buy his sister some clothes for her birthday.

He looks for girl clothes. He buys a pair of red shoes, two pink dresses, four brown skirts, a blue vest, a gray jacket and some multicolored socks for his sister. (10)

When they celebrate their birthdays, Richard is surprised (11) that his sister has bought him the same (12) clothes he returned to the store! How did she know? (13) They are both (14) happy. They have (15) a super birthday!

6. Shopping for Clothes: Reading

Richard is a boy elephant. He loves (1) baseball and other sports. (2). Today (3) is February 19th and it’s his birthday.

Richard wants some new clothes. He takes his money and goes (4) to K-Mart.

Richard buys a purple sweater, two pink ties, five black pair of socks, six pair of orange pants, and one green belt. (5) Now he has everything (6) a ten-year-old elephant needs.

When he returns home he remembers (7) that today is his sister’s birthday, too. She is four years younger than he is. (8) They were born on the same day, (9) but not the same year (10).

 Richard decides that he wants (11) to buy her some nice clothes for her birthday.

But Richard doesn’t have any more money. Then he remembers that he can return the clothes he bought (12) to the store.

He returns all the clothes and the store gives him back his money. (13) Now he can buy his sister some clothes for her birthday.

He buys a pair of red shoes, two pink dresses, four brown skits, a blue vest, a gray jacket and some multicolored socks for his sister. (14)

Later that day, (15) they celebrate their birthdays. Their mother makes a big cake (16). They invite their friends to help eat it. (17) They sing and play games. (18)

Richard gives the clothes to his sister. She is very happy! Richard is surprised when his sister gives him the same clothes (19) he returned to the store!

She saw what he bought while he was playing (20) baseball. She knew when he returned it and then she went and bought it back for him. (21) They are both happy and have a very nice birthday!
