37. Going to the Pharmacy: Story

There’s a boy named Fred. He gets sick and turns into a porcupine. (2) He takes (3) some over-the-counter medicine.

Fred takes the full bottle of pills. When the bottle is empty Fred is still (4) a porcupine.

Fred goes to the doctor. The doctor tells Fred he needs to take some special medicine. The doctor gives him (5) a prescription for antibiotics.

Fred goes to the pharmacy near his (6) home. The pharmacist asks for Fred’s insurance card. He fills Fred’s prescription. He tells Fred there will be (7) no refills.

Fred picks up the bottle of antibiotic pills and carries them home. (8) Over two weeks, (9) he takes all the pills.  They don’t work (10)—he is still a porcupine.

Fred goes to Saint Louis, Missouri.  He goes up (11) The Gateway Arch. There he meets (12) a Native American Indian woman named (13) Sacagawea.

Sacagawea says she can give him the medicine he needs. She drops off the pills at Fred’s house (14) the next day. (15)

He takes her pills and turns back into (16) a boy. Fred is very happy!

FFred Flintstone lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. He goes to Las Vegas High School. He is a normal boy and likes (1) his family and his school. (2)

FFred goes downtown (3) to Fremont Street with some of his friends to hang out. (4)

While they are there, (5) a bear hits (6) Fred on the head with a pinecone. (7) That night, Fred turns into a porcupine! (8)

 The next day, (9) Fred doesn’t go to school—he goes to the doctor’s. The doctor thinks (10) Fred has an exotic 
ddisease (11) and gives him a prescription for some antibiotic pills.

FFred goes to the pharmacy to get his prescription filled. (12) The pharmacist is very busy. (13)

FFred drops off the prescription and comes back (14) in an hour to pick up the antibiotics. He brings (15) his           insurance card to pay (16) for the medicine.

TThe pharmacist tells him he needs to take (17) two pills every four hours with food. (18)

FFred follows (19) the pharmacist’s instructions perfectly. But the pills don’t work. (20) Fred is still (21) a porcupine.

Fred goes to Saint Louis, Missouri to visit his sister. (22) She is happy to see him but surprised that he’s now a porcupine.

They go visit the famous Gateway Arch. (23) While (24) they are visiting the monument, Fred meets (25) a beautiful Indian princess (26) named Sacagawea.

FFred tells her that he is really (27) a boy and not a porcupine.

SSacagawea says she knows an old Indian remedy (28) that will help him. (29) She gives him a bottle filled with bbrown liquid made from (30) pinecones and insects.

FFred drinks (31) the medicine and is instantly cured. (32) Fred is very happy. He thanks Sacagawea for her help aand asks her (33) to refill the bottle in case (34) he has another problem like this again. (35)

Ruth is a penguin. She lives in Columbus, Ohio. She just received (1) a big check from the North American Penguin Society. She decides to cash it. (2)

There is a girl named Susan who lives in Hawaii. She wants a rabbit. (1)

The rabbit she wants is very expensive. (2) It costs $2000. It is a special rabbit with long hair and floppy ears. (3) It’s an Angora rabbit.

Susan goes to her bank in Honolulu to withdraw money from her account. She tries (4) to withdraw the money from the ATM but she has forgotten her PIN and her debit card won’t work.

She goes into the bank and talks with a bank teller. The teller gives her her (5) PIN number. Susan still has trouble. (6)

She goes back (7) to the teller. He explains that her balance in her savings account has fallen below (8) $2000. She doesn’t have enough (9) money.

Susan remembers (10) that her aunt in Paris has lots of money. She flies (11) to France to ask her (12) for some money.

Susan’s aunt goes with her to the bank. Susan shows the bank people (13) all her documents.

Susan’s aunt writes (14) a check for $2000 and deposits it in a checking account for Susan. Susan is very happy because now she can buy (15) the rabbit she wants.

Susan’s aunt takes her to visit (16) the Eiffel Tower in Paris. They climb (17) to the top so they can see the whole city. (18)

35. Meeting Your Child’s Teacher: Story
Marcy is in Mrs. Anderson’s third grade class. Mrs. Anderson is a goat, (1) but she is a very good teacher.

Marcy’s mother, Lucy, wants to meet Mrs. Anderson. Marcy has been (3) behaving poorly (4) in class and she has a bad report card.

Lucy calls (5) the office and makes an appointment (6) to speak with Mrs. Anderson. They meet (7) in Mrs. Anderson’s classroom.

Alexander is a snail. (1) He lives in Omaha, Nebraska. Alex wants to move.

Kathryn, Alex’s neighbor, offers her help. She’s a squirrel. (2)

Kathryn is always willing (3) to help. She and Alex have been (4) friends for a long time. (5)

Alex has everything ready. (6) He only needs help loading and unloading (7) his truck.

Kathryn’s good at carrying (8) light loads but she can also help with heavier things too. (9)

Alex has a big smile when Kathryn comes to his house to help. He’s very happy.

They put (10) some boxes in his truck. Together they lift (11) the heavy things. (12)

Once (13) everything is in the truck, they drive (14) to his new apartment and unload.

33. Buying a Car: Story
Daniel is a turtle. (1) He lives in Charlotte, South Carolina. Everybody (2) in Charlotte calls him (3) Danny.

Danny needs a car to get (4) to work. He decides to look for a used car in good condition with low miles.

Greg works at a car lot as a salesman. (5) Danny asks Greg if he has a good used car that is fuel efficient.

Danny says he likes imported cars, but he doesn’t like (6) compact cars.

Greg shows (7) Danny an imported midsized car with only 4,000 miles and gets 200 mpg. (8)

Danny asks what “mpg” means. (9) Greg tells him, “miles per gallon” of gasoline. Danny is impressed and he likes the way it looks. (10)

Danny asks if he can test drive the car. He wants to check it out. Greg says, “Of course.” (11)

Danny drives (12) the car for three days, two hours and sixteen and one half minutes. It runs great! (13)

Danny decides to purchase the car and asks Greg how much it costs. (14) Greg says it’s only $12.32. Danny is surprised (15) that the price is so low. (16)

Greg explains the reason (17) and Danny buys the car. They are both (18) very happy.
